The art of self-defense does not necessarily include the skills granted by martial arts. The use of martial art techniques such as tae kwon do, karate, judo, and other Chinese/Korean/Japanese/American form of organized combat disciplines have penetrated the knowledge of the greater public, and may seemingly be attractive in the eyes of the youth whose innocence is the first and favorite target of any form of crime.

But, again, you don’t have to learn all of those to properly defend yourself. Proper self-defense does not entail the requirement of years and years of learning which could make the weaker minds and bodies succumb unnecessarily to the evils of vulnerability. Self Defense Weapons are certainly available in the market, and they are very easy to use for those unwilling, or otherwise just plain reticent to take up the belts.

Here are some of the Self Defense Weapons available in the market:

Ø Stun guns

Ø Pepper sprays

Ø Stun batons

Ø Stun pens

These "stunners" and other distraction devices are designed to inflict temporary, but intense pain to the target. Once you’re armed with this, and as long as the usage is properly executed, there is no more need for any of the martial arts I said above to survive a potential hold-up or rape.

Although the effect of Self Defense Weapons are merely temporary, the time it gives for the victim is enough to call help around vicinity, or else to run full speed away from the criminal. Why, even in self-defense schools the first thing that they teach is the importance of peaceably trying to engage in combat rather than directly causing it.

Remember, self-defense is defense, not offense. It is wrong to engage in such aggressive behavior. Self Defense Weapons give the user the power to defend, and at times it can also be abused by undisciplined individuals. The reason why martial arts first consider the teaching of discipline before anything else is because of the dangers involved in self-defense.

But perhaps this is the least of the problems that a self-defense weapon user may have. The weapon is particularly easy to use and the damage not really lasting. All you have to do is to press a simple button, voila electrocution to the criminal!

Like any other product though, the weapons can be dangerous depending on its usage. It is important to read first how to use such products, or else you yourself may suffer from its consequent misuse. Life can be the one at stake here, especially in facing the loaded barrel of a hold-upper’s gun.

Quick reflexes and a calm demeanor are required to carry out effectively the job of the weapon. What is the use of your brand new stun gun if you don’t have the guts to fire it to another person? Nothing. You might even get killed in the process.

Remember that it is very important to accompany the effectiveness of self defense weapons with its required courage. Facing a big knife can be a very unnerving experience, and the scare it elicits may freeze anyone into dire submission. Self Defense weapons still require the alertness and the mental clarity of the ones who wield it.
